| Toon
Club screens the 'Best of 2007', animated short films by children |

We
don't need no animation,
We don't need no drawing control,
Hey teacher! Leave the kids alone
Students
of Tehzeeb Khurana's Toon Club love to sing this song or anthem
as they call it before their class with their teacher starts.
But
going by the quality of short films screened in the 'Best of Toon
Club 2007' on 28th April, this song is merely for fun. Organised
in the R.D. National College, Mumbai, 'Best of Toon Club' was attended
by around 50 people including children and their parents, Indian
animation veterans Bhimsen Khurana and Ram Mohan, Pala Flick's Greg
Acuna and few students.
Animation
in different forms and different techniques was the flavour of the
show. All the short films screened were made by the children of
ages seven to fourteen years. The different types of animation used
were Direct 2 film, live action-animation combination, animation
with Wikkistix, Matchstick animation-animals, cut out animation,
bead animation, clay animation and chalk board animation.
Speaking
to AnimationXpress.com Tehzeeb shared, "The 'Best
of Toon Club' event got a fantastic response. We had a house-full
show. I didn't expect that kind of crowd. Such an event and the
response it got, is truly encouraging for the kids."
"Toon
Club kids are extremely talented. There would be no Toon Club without
these dedicated kids. As my father-in-law (Mr. Bhimsain) rightly
said, the kids keep me on my toes and keep asking for more. Its
fun as well challenging to keep the excitement and love for a subject
like animation alive in them" she further added.
The
excitement of kids was evident with the smiles on their face. Overwhelmed
with the interest the children showed, Bhimsen Khurana said a few
words. "I have been in this industry for forty years. The work
we have seen today done b these kids, I used to see at that time
of my career. I have seen these kids come even on their days off
to complete their projects. It is heartening to this kind of interest
and talent t such young age."
Sharing
his views on the same note, Ram Mohan said, "I think Toon Club
is doing great work. Catching the kids at young age and nurturing
their interest in animation beyond the cartoons and films they see,
is very good sign. Animation in India has now come to a stage where
people are talking about commercially also and can think of it success
on box office."
At
the end of the event, graduating students from Toon Club were awarded
certificates by veteran Ram Mohan.
