production of Mobile content based on Story Time with Uncle
Pai.
The content was launched on 12 January on the TATA Teleservices
Network and is to debut on Reliance Infocomm next week.
Speaking to Animation 'xpress Ajay Adiseshann,
Managing Director, Coruscant Tec said, The market for VAS
and content in India is huge and our applications are targeted
at meeting the demands of the diverse consumers across the
length and breadth of the country. Comics are must reads for
children world over and Uncle Pai has a large following amongst
children and adults in India. Anant Pai, the author of these
stories is known as the Father of Indian Comics and is the
"Walt Disney" of India. We have leveraged on a winning
combination of the right content, platform and service provider
to deliver entertainment to the end user"
While Reliance will be hosting the content on its Java platform,
Uncle Pai's comic stories have been adapted for Tata's Brew
platform in the form of downloadable brew applications.
Priced
at Rs 15 per download (each download will contain 2 stories
of 3-5 minutes duration each) Stories include Chhotu tames
a tiger, The Tiger in a cage, The Pandit and
the Goat and The Crows in Agra. The stories are
available in multiple languages such as Hindi and English
and going forward will be available in Marathi, Gujrati, Tamil,
Bengali and Punjabi.
"These are print publications which have now been adapted
for the mobile. Each application will come with freebies like
relevant wallpapers. In addition, on offer will be audio and
video versions(animated cartoons) of the stories in future"
added Ajay.
On being asked what the target demo for the Uncle Pai content
was, Coruscant Director Probir Roy replied that,"The
primary demo is six to twelve year olds and secondary demo
of twelve to eighteen year olds. Though kids in the former
demo dont have their own cell phones, they do make good use
of parent's cell phones for playing and accessing content.
Besides parents who are the major influencors and who pay
the bills at the end of the day will be more than glad for
their children to access Uncle Pai's stories"
"From day one we have adopted a very differentiative
strategy vis a vis content, it is based on two principles,
to bring to the market innovative content and zero downside
of content sourcing. This translates into a two pronged strategy,
one of catering to the premium market by providing eclectic
content tlike for example RAVE magazine and Man's
World, and MF Hussain paintings on mobile wallpapers and
the other part of the strategy which is doing more mass appeal
content like Uncle Pai and other stuff that we will
be disclosing in the weeks to come" concluded Roy.
