Here's
some wonderful news for all lovers of Archies comics as well
as for those who are involved in Indian animation and gaming.
Having
its development studio in Hyderabad and marketing office in
the US, FX Labs headed by Gaming Stalwart Tony Garcia has
announced the signing of an exclusive agreement with Archies
Comics Entertainment to develop a 3D PC and console game based
on the popular Archie comics.
Speaking to Animation 'xpress, FX Labs CEO Tony
Garcia stated,"The 3D comic book feel arcade action game
based on the Archies Universe is being planned to be released
sometime in 07. With the Archies game we are going to stay
true to its wholesome family appeal and the game will recreate
the magic and charm of the Archies universe"
"More than 90% of the development work including art
assets will be done in Hyderabad, this of course in constant
collaboration and supervision from the Archie Comics Entertainment
Staff. We have currently begun the pre production with a team
of five people and will soon scale upto about 30 people in
the next 5 months time" added Garcia.
A
veteran in the gaming industry with more than 20 years of
experience, Garcia played an instrumental role in the setting
up of Microsoft's game division way back in 1991. After leaving
Microsoft in 96, Garcia was the General Manager at Electronic
Arts lab in Seattle where he was involved in games like Need
for Speed and FIFA Soccer.
"The plan is to become a game production powerhouse in
the next few years time. And we will achieve that by getting
in the best of International talent and training our talented
Indian artists under them" concluded Garcia.
