  MEL in scale up mode

Mumbai based animation major Maya Entertainment Ltd is in scale up mode. The studio is in the midst of adding another facility (around 30,000 sq feet) close to its present base at Andheri (W).

Speaking to Animation 'xpress, MEL CEO RAjesh Turakhia commented," Maya entertainment as a studio is delivering high quality for a reasonable price and the timelines of these deliveries have established us as a studio of preference for international clients. The growth in the CGI, VFX and education division has resulted in a space crunch so we have to move the CGI section to a much bigger facility while retaining current space for the education and VFX division"

Aimed at catering to both television and the feature market, MEL's new CGI division will be up and running towards the year end and shall have a capacity of 300 seats. "The new studio will be a state of the art studio using Intel designed architecture and Intel Equipment" quipped Turakhia.

Recently MEL has delivered 55 minutes of game cinematics for a playstation title and a 20 minute special for Chanukah (jewish festival) for a public TV station in the US. The studio has currently begun work on a TV series after having delivered the pilot.

The animation scene in Mumbai is witnessing a major fillip. In the past 6 months, more than 5 studios including Indiagames, Pixion, R&H India, 2nz, VCL and now MEL have scaled up and either moved to new or added additional facilities.

Additionally 3 of Mumbai's top animation and post production studios are expected to announce their expansion plans in the next 3 months!
