Animating the torpedo shots was a cakewalk as far as the motion was concerned. However it was a trying time getting the bubbles right and animating them.

The golden rule for CG is When struggling to recreate, study more references and make more options, finally you will get there. The animation team at VCL faithfully followed this rule.

Finally they cracked the problem of making the bubbles look more real by adding another fluid layer to the existing particle layers.

Interestingly the render time for the bubbles took more than one hour per frame. That was just for the particles. The fluids were rendered sepeartely so as to provide greater control over the density in Post.
