At last count there were 8 studios in Mumbai that had scaled up or were in the process of doing so, add yet another one to the growing list.

The buzz doing the rounds is that a large Mumbai based post prod house is adding not one but 2 more facilities to its network, including one in Chennai.

Demand for Graphics programmers on the rise
As the Animation and VFX industries evolve in the country the demand for programmers is on the rise. The potency that programming can add to graphics is limitless and this field is yet untapped in India.

Animation expert Jesh Krishnamurthy opines,"One of the main things that the Industry needs here today are people with mathematics and programming skills. In a mature workflow and pipeline, a lot of processes are automated using code.

Besides programming can be used to create other tools, shaders, plugins etc"

News Corp. to buy internet gaming company

An official press release states that News Corporation has signed a definitive agreement to acquire IGN Entertainment, Inc, a leading community-based Internet media and services company for video games and other forms of digital entertainment, for approximately $650 million in cash. IGN and its network of sites will become part of News Corporation’s Fox Interactive Media unit.

IGN’s major video game-related properties include IGN.com, GameSpy, GameSpy Arena, FilePlanet, TeamXbox, 3D Gamers, Direct2Drive, GameStats.com and a number of web sites within the Vault and Planet networks.

In addition, it provides technology for online game play in video games.
IBC 2005 sees launch of the Mobile Zone

Here's a clipping from the IBC website: "The mobile phone industry is booming, with over 1.5 billion mobile phones in use worldwide and the population sending more than 700 billion text messages a year, mobiles are a hot topic at IBC2005.

Acknowledging that the newest generation of handhelds are being referred to as the 'Fourth Screen', hot on the heels of cinema, TV and the PC, IBC will be hosting a dedicated Mobile Zone. This area will provide a unique showcase for application developers, content providers and technology companies.

Accompanying the Mobile Zone, the IBC Conference has a theme day dedicated to Mobile Applications on Saturday, 10 September"
